Chelsea make contact with two preferred Graham Potter replacements as next manager hunt begins

Chelsea are said to have made contact with two of their preferred options to take the vacant managerial post at Stamford Bridge. The Blues are currently in search of their third permanent manager of the season, having replaced Thomas Tuchel with Graham Potter earlier in the campaign as part of Boehly-Clearlake's new philosophy.

The second boss had little luck in turning things around though, with poor form resulting in his side dropping into the bottom half of the Premier League. The club confirmed on Sunday that Potter had been dismissed, with the process of finding a new manager on the cards.

"On behalf of everyone at the club, we want to thank Graham sincerely for his contribution to Chelsea," Co-controlling owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali said. "We have the highest degree of respect for Graham as a coach and as a person. He has always conducted himself with professionalism and integrity and we are all disappointed in this outcome."

A whole host of options have been linked with a switch for the role, with plenty of top coaches available and unattached to clubs. One of those is Julian Nagelsmann, who was recently replaced at Bayern Munich by former Chelsea boss Tuchel, with the young manager failing to impress the hierarchy despite his results.

The Telegraph reports that the Blues have made contact over a move for the German as one of a few preferred options to interview for the vacant manager role. There's also Luis Enrique that has been contacted, who would be a slightly different option to his potential rival for the job.

The 52-year-old is heavily possession-based in his approach as seen during his time at Barcelona and the Spain men's national team. It's a style that raised questions over Euro 2020 and World Cup 2022, given it may be less suited to knockout football, however a return to club football may be a better fit.

It remains to be seen exactly which other candidates will be contacted at this stage, with a number expected to be trialled before a final decision is made. However, it will have to be one that fits exactly what Boehly and Co. want from their project or they face making another mistake.
