Chelsea legend John Terry delivers Luis Diaz verdict after Liverpool beat Tottenham to transfer

Chelsea legend John Terry has delivered a glowing verdict of Liverpool winger Luis Diaz - a player Jurgen Klopp signed in January after 'hijacking' a Tottenham move.

The Porto winger was reportedly a long-term target of the Reds and a summer move was planned. But after Spurs launched their bid, Liverpool decided to act.

He ultimately moved to Anfield in a deal that could be worth up to £50 million and, at the moment, it looks like money well spent.

Diaz's father, Luis Manuel, spoke of the January saga after he had sealed his move to Merseyside, saying that hesitation by Spurs and other potential suitors ultimately cost them a deal.

"There were many suitors who wanted Luis' services, but he had the dream of reaching Liverpool. Because Liverpool are an elite team," Diaz Snr told BluRadio's Blog Deportivo.

"After the first game, he told me that it was a team that works hard, complete, in which he will feel comfortable and will have the chance to play with high-performance players.

"'Tottenham was one. Roma was also left behind in the process. They hesitated a lot and let themselves be caught by Liverpool. Liverpool were faster than them, they needed him and they took him away."

He has already caught the eye on more than one occasion, including an excellent finish against Norwich to score his goal before terrorising Chelsea's defence in the Carabao Cup final.

Now, Blues' legend Terry has joined those singing the Colombian's praises.

While Liverpool were taking on West Ham, in a match they eventually won 1-0, Terry took to Twitter to write simply: "Diaz is a player."
