Chelsea injury news: Kai Havertz and Ruben Loftus-Cheek train before Real Madrid showdown

Kai Havertz has given Chelsea a boost by returning to training ahead of the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Real Madrid.

The German missed Saturday’s 2-1 Premier League defeat by Brighton with a knee problem but trained with the Chelsea squad at Cobham on Monday and is fit to face Real at Stamford Bridge.

N’Golo Kante and Thiago Silva also trained after being rested at the weekend. The return of Havertz is a boost for Chelsea, who need their top scorer as they bid to overturn a 2-0 first-leg deficit against Real.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek has also returned after a back complaint, with Kalidou Koulibaly and long-term absentee Armando Broja the only senior players out. Ben Chilwell is suspended for the second leg after his red card at the Bernabeu last week.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Noni Madueke and Benoit Badiashile all trained but remain unregistered for the Champions League.

Real, meanwhile, rested both Vinicius Junior and Toni Kroos at the weekend but both players have travelled to London and are expected to be fit. Defender Ferland Mendy will miss the match due to a thigh injury, however.
