Chelsea‘s injury situation has eased just as the season is coming to an end.
Mauricio Pochettino has been without a whole host of first-team stars through the campaign, but his options have been bolstered recently and it is now four wins in a row for the Blues.
The sheer number of absences Chelsea have had to contend with will surely be taken into account when the Argentine heads for a post-season summit next week to discuss his future.
Reece James made his first appearance in five months and played a key role as Chelsea beat Nottingham Forest, but he was then sent off against Brighton and handed a four-match suspension. Ben Chilwell is back to fitness, along with the likes of Raheem Sterling and Christopher Nkunku, though Mykhailo Mudryk’s season has been brought to a premature.
With that in mind, here’s a look at the latest on Chelsea injuries…
Mykhailo Mudryk
It has been confirmed that Mykhailo Mudryk will not be involved in Chelsea’s final match of the season against Bournemouth.
The winger suffered a suspected concussion after a collision with Tariq Lamptey against Brighton, with regulations to do with head injuries meaning that while it is not believed to be a serious issue, Mudryk is not able to feature this weekend.
Potential return date: Summer 2024
Carney Chukwuemeka
Carney Chukwuemeka is nearing a return from a knee injury.
The midfielder is back in training and, although he did not make the squad against Brighton on Wednesday night, Pochettino has confirmed he is close and in contention to be involved this weekend.
Potential return date: Sunday May 19, vs Bournemouth
Enzo Fernandez
Enzo Fernandez underwent surgery on a hernia last month and will not play again this season at club level.
There is reportedly a hope, however, the midfielder will be back in time to represent Argentina at the Copa America this summer.
Potential return date: June 2024
Robert Sanchez
Goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has been involved in some team training, but will not return before the end of the season.
Potential return date: Summer 2024
Wesley Fofana
Wesley Fofana has missed the whole season due to another serious knee injury and will turn his focus to pre-season later this summer.
Potential return date: Summer 2024
Romeo Lavia
Romeo Lavia managed just 32 minutes during his first season as a Chelsea player, with the midfielder ruled out of the final months of the campaign with a thigh injury.
