Chelsea injury news and expected return dates vs Arsenal: Kovacic, Barkley, Hudson-Odoi

After booking their place in their third consecutive FA Cup final against Crystal Palace, Chelsea are very quickly back in Premier League action, with a clash against Arsenal to come. Having all-but booked their place in the Champions League for next term, the Blues could potentially play a huge role in the top four battle.

Ahead of the game however, there are some injury worries for current Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to contend with following the showdown at Wembley Stadium. Mateo Kovacic was withdrawn during the first-half of the clash and could potentially be ruled out for some time.

With that being said, here is all of the latest injury updates ahead of the mid-week clash with the Gunners.

Mateo Kovacic

Having been selected to start the FA Cup semi-final with Crystal Palace, the Croatian midfielder lasted under half an hour having seemingly picked up an ankle problem. He was replaced by Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tuchel does not seem to be particularly optimistic on his chances.

What Tuchel has said: "When Kova comes off, you know that he is in pain. The ankle is swollen, it’s a huge ankle right now. So let’s hope. It doesn’t look so good but we will wait for the examination and we can tell you more."

Expected return: Unknown

Ross Barkley

Despite having been expected to return from illness as Chelsea travelled to Wembley, Barkley was once again not named in the Blues’ squad for the clash. It remains to be seen whether it is the same problem that kept him out of the FA Cup clash and the question remains if he will be in contention to take on Arsenal.

What Tuchel has said: "Ross Barkley is sick, he will not travel."

Expected return: Unknown

Callum Hudson-Odoi

Hudson-Odoi managed just one appearance in February as he too struggled with a troublesome Achilles issue. No risks have been taken with the academy graduate, who is still out and his return is still unknown.

What Tuchel has said: "Except for Ben Chilwell and Callum Hudson-Odoi. Everyone seems to be okay."

Expected return: N/A

Ben Chilwell

Chilwell suffered a cruciate ligament injury in his knee that is set to keep the wing-back out for the rest of the season. The 25-year-old performed well in the early stages of the season but won't make a return until the summer.

Expected return: Summer 2022
