Chelsea in talks with RB Leipzig over Timo Werner loan after Josko Gvardiol swap bid rejected

Chelsea are in talks with RB Leipzig over a potential move for Timo Werner to return to his former club on loan.

Chelsea would have to cover a portion of his wages or ask the German to reduce his salary to move back to the Bundesliga.

Those are the basis of the talks with Leipzig, having rejected a swap deal involving Werner for their star defender Josko Gvardiol.

Juventus and Newcastle have enquired about a possible move for Werner but Leipzig are favourites to sign him.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is open to keeping Werner but his relationship with the forward has deteriorated in pre-season.

Werner has refused to commit his future to Chelsea, leading to Tuchel saying: "I would be one of the happiest people on the planet having a contract with Chelsea."

The comments were particularly barbed considering Werner is in Chelsea's top five earners on a deal worth £275,000 a week.
