Chelsea in talks for $38m transfer before it's too late as Arsenal plot Romeo Lavia hijack

Welcome to the football.london transfer briefing. To help you keep on top of all things Chelsea going on in the market we've got the latest noises coming from social media, journalists and so-called ITKs, rounding up what's what in the world of the Blues.

Al-Nassr talks

Chelsea are in talks with Saudi Pro League giants Al-Nassr over a deal for Hakim Ziyech this summer, according to reports. The Moroccan is one of the first team stars most likely to be sold after another disappointing season in England.

With teams from the Middle East set for their own raft of major transfers this window, Chelsea could yet take advantage by selling off several of their out-of-form and overpaid players. It is said that an offer will be made for Ziyech, who cost Chelsea £30 million ($38m) in 2020, as well as the potential for others to leave.

Kalidou Koulibaly and Edouard Mendy are also said to be fielding serious offers from the league and Chelsea, who need quick sales as well as numerous ones, will be welcoming any interest.

football.london says: Chelsea cannot be picky with the bids they receive this window. Looking at form. there will not be a queue of teams lining up to pay big money to sign a 30-year-old winger like Ziyech, 31-year-old goalkeeper Mendy and an evidently ageing Koulibaly.

It is perhaps one of the few benefits to English football of the cash injection into the Saudi Pro League that Chelsea's wasteful transfer business has a lifeline and a way out. Ziyech is a big name for football in that part of the world after his World Cup heroics and needs a way out of his contact at Chelsea early.

The Blues need sales and ones of substantial financial offering as well. This could be their way out of a serious hole and really, needs to be accepted and confirmed before any second thought is given.

Arsenal hijack

Arsenal are still contemplating a move for Romeo Lavia this summer despite having a firm focus on Declan Rice as their priority. Like Chelsea, the Gunners have grand plans for their midfield and are keen on not just one but at least two new additions in the middle of the park.

With Lavia they also see a player that can offer immediate advances in depth and quality but also high potential. The Blues are in-front as it happens, though. Fabrizio Romano writes: "Arsenal have concrete and strong interest in Romeo Lavia. Relationship is excellent with his camp — talks already took place. #AFC

"Timing will be crucial as Chelsea remain interested. Man United appreciate Lavia but still not advancing. City buy back clause only valid 2024."

football.london says: Lavia is quality and teams going after him are on the right track. Chelsea's interest is nothing new at this stage after making late attempts last year and adding his former director at Southampton and Manchester City, Joe Shields, is only likely to enhance their chances of being successful in their pursuit.

Arsenal, as a team built on young players and with a need for new midfielders, have a strong pitch for him. Chelsea do as well, though, and may well be able to offer more immediate first team action than their London rivals.

For one of the best teenagers in his position out there it is only logical that a true battle takes place for his signing. Chelsea just need to make sure they do that bit extra to get it over the line.
