The 2022 summer transfer window is fully under way and it appears that Chelsea are beginning to accelerate their business as manager Thomas Tuchel aims to mould the squad into one that fully represents his identity. Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen leaving on free transfers meant that the backline needed to be strengthened with serious quality and the club have already started their rebuild by bringing in Napoli star Kalidou Koulibaly on a four-year deal.
The 31-year-old has already given Chelsea fans an insight into the type of player he is, stating that he wants to be the 'security of the team'. But what's worth mentioning is that the Blues are not done yet in regards to signing centre-backs.
Nathan Ake is now expected to stay at Manchester City, which means that other targets must be pursued and it seems that PSG defender Presnel Kimpembe is high on the club's list. According to well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano, 'Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are in direct talks' over the 26-year-old. The initial request is around £50-55million, with the west Londoners at this stage preparing to submit an offer of £38-47million.

The importance of having a left-footed player operates on the left is vital when it comes to the quality and placement of passes delivered, hence why Tuchel is keen on bringing in an option that fits this particular profile. Kimpembe provides great quality on the ball, capable of spreading the ball with inch-perfect long passes as well as being able to break lines of opposition structure when under severe pressure.
What will encourage Chelsea is that should they acquire the French international, they would be signing a player who not only possesses plenty of experience at the top level but is also soon approaching his prime years. A potential back three consisting of Koulibaly, Thiago Silva and Kimpembe would be one that provides great security in front of keeper Edouard Mendy.
