Chelsea identify new transfer priority after Jude Bellingham decision revealed

Chelsea have already set out their new plans for the summer transfer window despite spending nearly £300m in the winter. They recruited players across the pitch with all eight new signings coming under the age of 24.

Outside of Joao Felix, 23, everyone else was 22 or under and three players were teenagers when the agreement was originally reached. Add on the expected £6m fee for 17-year-old Jimmy-Jay Morgan from Southampton - completed and announced after the window closed - and five teenagers have been purchased under Todd Boehly's ownership already.

There is no sign of this relenting either. The drive for young players that will fuel the desired success in the future has been clear since the outset and there are already more ideas for additions at the end of the season.

Although Chelsea will be under financial pressure to sell players - allowing a homegrown player to be sold would help balance the Financial Fair Play rules significantly - they are still looking to do more business. The need for a striker has become clear in the matches since deadline day - just one goal in two outings - with a run of draws frustrating fans.

There is also still a gap in midfield despite breaking the British transfer record for Enzo Fernandez. Moises Caicedo and Jude Bellingham are just two of the names mentioned in this conversation but the priority may well be elsewhere.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano the Blues are looking at alternative targets. In a Youtube video he said: "I want to clarify something. We had mixed reports on Jude Bellingham rejecting Chelsea. The reality is Bellingham never said no to any Chelsea proposal.

“Chelsea never made any official proposal for Bellingham. Of course, they [Chelsea] know that after signing Enzo Fernandez and being well-covered in that position, the expectation is that Chelsea will not go for Bellingham in the summer.

“Chelsea are now focusing on different things and different positions.”

With Declan Rice still a target there is a chance he is one of the players of interest to Boehly/Clearlake but it will also be just as fascinating to see which other areas of the field are prioritised the most.
