Chelsea icon tips Mikel Arteta to follow Pep Guardiola blueprint amid major Arsenal future claim

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has been tipped to follow in Pep Guardiola's footsteps if he can bring success back to the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners currently lead the way at the top of the Premier League, four points ahead of reigning champions Manchester City, as well as going strong in the Europa League. Arteta has been crucial to the north London outfit improving over the past three years and a key tactical tweak this season has seen players like Granit Xhaka improve their performance levels with Arsenal having only lost once in all competitions so far this term.

The Spaniard came under heavy criticism at the end of the 2021/22 campaign after the Gunners missed out on securing a return to the UEFA Champions League at the expense of their north London rivals Tottenham. Arteta has had to manage setbacks and tricky situations during his time as Arsenal boss, but he is now repaying the trust shown in him by the club's owners.

There is no doubt that Arteta would have learned a lot during his time acting as Guardiola's understudy at the Etihad Stadium, playing a key role in assisting City win the Premier League twice, two EFL Cups and an FA Cup. Speaking to Safe Betting Sites, former Chelsea midfielder Gus Poyet said: “Arteta has got the potential to be a world class manager.

"I see him in a special bracket of managers where they play a certain kind of football, a very special one. It looks to me that Arteta goes in the same direction as Pep, that he needs to coach a certain type of team.

"I think going to City after Pep sounds more attractive than Barcelona, but it depends how long Arteta will stay with Arsenal."

After three years with the Gunners, Arteta is now seeing his team take the next step in their development as he continues to improve the north London outfit as part of his long-term vision. Poyet continued: "If he continues producing at Arsenal, he can demand certain things from teams who may want him in the future because they will be expecting a particular style of football.”

Should the Spaniard lead Arsenal back to the UEFA Champions League and potentially win trophies with the Gunners, Arteta may eventually be in the box seat to replace Guardiola at City or take over from Xavi Hernandez at Barcelona. Jurgen Klopp has shown at Liverpool that patience and time can lead to trophies and continued success after a difficult spell and Arsenal will be hoping Arteta can produce a similar result.
