Chelsea hold key advantage in Youssoufa Moukoko transfer battle amid 'good chance' of deal

Chelsea's constant focus on constructing the next generation of stars this season has been one of very few highlights so far this season. Many young talents at the club have been handed opportunities within Graham Potter’s first team while Todd Boehly has signed three players all younger than 22 in the January window.

David Datro Fofana, 20, and Andrey Santos, 18, were both confirmed as signings two and three of the window today (Saturday) following Benoit Badiashile arrived for £33.6million beforehand. The 21-year-old, unlike Fofana and Santos, is expected to be supplied to Graham Potter immediately.

It's likely that Chelsea will continue to add to the playing squad at Stamford Bridge before February with Enzo Fernandez and Joao Felix two strongly linked with a move. However, Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have one eye on the summer and continuing their rebuild in west London.

One player who has been extensively linked with a move to the club at the end of the season is Youssoufa Moukoko. The Borussia Dortmund striker has six months remaining on his current deal in Germany and has reportedly rejected fresh terms from the Yellows.

With plenty of promise ahead of him, Moukoko isn't short of suitors for his services in attack. Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona have all been tipped to make a move, but Chelsea have been said to be "in the lead" for Moukoko's signature.

Now, journalist Christian Falk has claimed that the Blues have a "good chance" of signing the striker and hold a huge advantage in their pursuit. "I have heard, and this is a very interesting point for England, that Chelsea has a really good opportunity because they have Christopher Vivell now and he knows Moukoko very well from his time in the Bundesliga," he told Bild.

"He liked the player during his time at RB Leipzig, he always had an eye on him, so I think he has a good advantage in the poker game, which means there's a good chance for Chelsea to get Moukoko."

Vivell joined Chelsea as technical director in December following Marina Granovskaia and Petr Cech departed following Boehly's £4.25billion takeover. Following his arrival, the German native said: "Chelsea are building the most exciting project in global football and I'm extremely proud to be joining the club to continue to succeed, develop and grow.

"Under the new ownership, Graham Potter and the broader sporting team, there is a clear and sustainable philosophy underpinned by performance analysis, data and innovation and I am looking forward to playing a part in that."

Falk also claimed Moukoko's move is now "a question of money." The finances involved will not include a transfer fee but the wage package offered to the 18-year-old and a task Vivell will take upon himself in the next six months.
