Chelsea hold encouraging meeting with Barcelona star's camp as Todd Boehly eyes shock transfer

Chelsea have entered negotiations with Barcelona star Gavi's representatives over a potential transfer to Stamford Bridge this summer, as per reports in Spain. The Blues are hoping to move ahead of a number of rival clubs across Europe and look to secure the talented midfielder's signature given the uncertainty surrounding his future with the Catalan giants.

The 18-year-old is facing an unprecedented situation at the Camp Nou after being stripped of his shirt number and having his new contract cancelled by La Liga. The governing body intervened due to Barcelona's inability to stay under their salary cap given the club's ongoing financial struggles.

This has left Gavi in a tough position with his contract now set to expire this summer, alerting a number of Premier League clubs to his availability on a free transfer. Todd Boehly has shown a willingness to pursue deals for talented youngsters across the world and Gavi could become the latest addition to the Blues' squad this summer following a promising meeting between the club and the youngster's representatives.

According to AS, Chelsea are actively pursuing a deal for Gavi after a meeting was held in Madrid between club officials and the player's agent. Technical director Christopher Vivell, who along with sporting directors Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart handles transfer dealings after Boehly stepped aside, reportedly represented Chelsea in the discussions.

The report claims that Vivell made promises of an important role to play in the club's plans for the future, dubbed the '2030 vision' by Neil Bath. The outcome of the meeting was said to be 'very satisfactory', giving the west Londoners plenty of encouragement over their pursuit of the Spain international.

Should Chelsea succeed in a deal for Gavi, it would be the perfect revenge for the club after Barcelona pipped them to the signings of Jules Kounde and Raphinha last summer.
