Chelsea hit with double injury blow as Mateo Kovacic and Hakim Ziyech limp off during Lille game

Chelsea were handed a blow during their Champions League meeting with Lille at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday evening.

With the score at 1-0 following an early Kai Havertz header, Thomas Tuchel’s side look to have been in control of the tie until their French opposition started to grow into the game towards the end of the first-half.

Not long after the break, more problems emerged.

Mateo Kovacic, who has already missed eight games through a combination of illness and injury, limped off and was duly replaced by Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Only minutes later, Hakim Ziyech limped off, appearing to hold his ankle after falling to the ground under no contact. The Moroccan, who has emerged as a key player in recent weeks, was replaced by Saul Niguez.

With Liverpool up next in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, the idea of missing both players will be a real worry for Tuchel, particularly given the doubts about Mason Mount’s fitness.
