Chelsea have £6m reason to ruin Man Utd and Newcastle Champions League dream and help Liverpool

It has been a disaster of a season for Chelsea. The Blues have had four different managers at one time or another this season and are going to finish with their lowest-ever points tally in a Premier League season.

Languishing in 12th place in the Premier League table, with just 43 points, Chelsea can only finish on a maximum of 49 with two games left to play. And they can only finish as high as 11th, meaning they will finish in the bottom half of the table for only the second time in Premier League history - the first being 1993/94 when they finished 14th in a 24-team league.

Supporters are keen for the season to come to an end, with eyes on a new head coach coming in - set to be Mauricio Pochettino - and the transfers he could make under Todd Boehly.

But they do have a financial incentive to end the season on a high and it would help Liverpool in the process too.

The Blues have two games left to play, away at Manchester United on Thursday and then at home to Newcastle United on the final day of the season on Sunday.

Both of those teams are chasing Champions League football next season, with it all-but being confirmed. The pair need one point from their final two matches to secure a place in the top four, with Liverpool three points behind both with only one game to play.

However, Chelsea could ruin both Man United and Newcastle's Champions League dreams with results against them, and give Todd Boehly and co a nice little financial boost too.

Every position in the Premier League table is worth more money, with Chelsea currently set to earn £17million for finishing 12th. However, both Wolves and West Ham could overhaul them if they were to lose both games, with a 14th-place finish worth just £13million to them.

If they were to pick up a win or two and leapfrog Crystal Palace into 11th, Chelsea would secure £19million for an 11th-placed finish - more money to put towards summer transfer plans under soon to be appointed Mauricio Pochettino.
