Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana feared the worst when he suffered an injury during the Blues' 3-0 win against AC Milan on Wednesday night.
The French defender completed a £75million transfer from Leicester City to Stamford Bridge in the summer and scored the opening goal against the Serie A side as Chelsea picked up their first win in the Champions League this season. Fofana suffered a serious leg fracture during his time with the Foxes, missing nearly a full season of football back in 2021, and many feared the worst for the 21-year-old when he was spotted leaving Stamford Bridge on crutches after the win against Milan.
Fofana sent a message to Chelsea fans in a post on Instagram stating he will be back 'stronger' after his joy turned to despair following his first goal for the Blues. Graham Potter did not want to speculate on the 21-year-old's injury but the latest reports suggest his injury may not be as bad as first feared.

According to French news outlet L'Equipe, Fofana suffered a sprained knee during the match against AC Milan and is set to miss up to four weeks of action. Daily Telegraph journalist Matt Law has also confirmed the news that the French centre-back will be fit again before the 2022 World Cup in November, easing fears that Fofana could have missed out on a spot in the France squad for the tournament.
The news that Fofana could well be back before the end of October if he does not suffer any setbacks will be a huge boost for the Blues as Potter's side look to progress from their Champions League group. Tough tests against Manchester United and Premier League leaders Arsenal are also on the horizon and Potter will be hoping he can call upon the French defender sooner rather than later before his players head off on international duty for the World Cup.
