Chelsea handed Jorginho contract boost amid Kalidou Koulibaly transfer and new agent confession

There are a number of reasons why Jorginho deserves a new contract with Chelsea. He is a passing genius, and quite frankly, he suits Thomas Tuchel's system perfectly. Putting all the technicalities aside, his bromance with new signing Kalidou Koulibaly is just the sweetest thing ever. The pair developed a friendship during their time at former club Napoli. When Jorginho left in 2018, it was a difficult goodbye for the friends, but four years later, they are reunited.

Jorginho has become somewhat of a popular figure amongst the Chelsea fan base, and it looks to be the case in the dressing room. His future is not yet certain to be at Chelsea as his agent once described a move back to Italy as his 'dream'. But the tune has since changed.

As much as Tuchel's squad rebuild is beginning to come together, it is imperative that the Blues address contracts that run out next year - first up is Jorginho. Having played an important role in bringing his friend over to the Bridge after six long years since Chelsea first registered their interest in Koulibaly, could Jorginho be signalling that he wants to stay?

With words engraved on the Chelsea website, Kalidou Koulibaly spoke about his thought process in his decision to move to the club.

"Jorgi actually texted me and asked if I wanted to come to Chelsea!" Koulibaly told the club's website.

"At the time, I wasn't sure if they wanted me, but of course, I said I would come with pleasure. It was the same with Edou [Mendy], he asked me the question, and I told him it was already done and I would see him soon!

"Now I'm here, I'm really happy to start this exciting journey. The squad looks great with a good mix of younger players and those with more experience."

Could the text message be a sign Jorginho could stay if he's luring former teammates to Chelsea? That doesn't seem like a thing someone would do if they didn't enjoy Chelsea and planned to leave this transfer window.

A text message and a bid were all it took for the Senegalese international to join Tuchel's team in the end. As a fan, you'd probably wonder why this move wasn't completed earlier!

A move back to Italy is still on the cards for Jorginho. This summer transfer window has seen Juventus register their interest in the Italian midfielder, but no progress has been made between the two clubs for a specific reason. Jorginho's agent, Joao Santos, does not see a 'dream' move back to Italy for Jorginho any time soon. According to Tutto Mercato via Daily Mail, Santos states that his client wants to stay at Chelsea. He tells the Italian publication,

"Chelsea are the priority. His contract will expire in 2023. I think we will talk about the renewal from September.'

This comes as music to a Chelsea fan's ears. Losing Jorginho would be a big adjustment for the squad on and off the pitch. Due to contractual disagreements, the Blues have already lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen. Can they afford to lose Jorginho too? Hopefully, Todd Boehly has this issue book marked as a priority on his to-do list. Another season of contract roulette would be torture for those who had to witness the loss of Rudiger and Christensen.
