Chelsea handed Enzo Fernandez debut deadline amid Premier League registration rules

Chelsea's January transfer business went right to the wire on deadline day, but they finally secured their top target late into the night. That was the signing of Enzo Fernandez, the eighth signing of a hectic winter window for the Blues under the direction of their new American ownership.

Joao Felix, Benoit Badiashile, Mykhailo Mudryk, David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos, Noni Madueke and Malo Gusto round up the rest of the month, but now all focus is back on the pitch. There can be no more tinkering of the squad until the end of the season, meaning it's the job of Graham Potter and his staff to extract results from his squad.

The side currently sit tenth in the Premier League and knocked out of both domestic cup competitions, requiring a clear up turn in form as well as a potential run in the Champions League. With such a large expenditure in the past two transfer windows, there will be the weight of expectation too.

The first clash for the Blues this month will be against west London rivals Fulham, though the Blues have a new registration window to ensure their new players are involved. Premier League clubs will be required to submit their revised squad lists after the closure of the January transfer window, having previously done so when the summer window closed.

Squads are required to contain no more than 17 players who do not fulfil the Home Grown Player quota, with the rest of the squad - up to a maximum of 25 players - required to be Home Grown, with an unlimited number of under-21 players allowed.

The Premier League determine a Home Grown Player as being: "a player who, irrespective of nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to The Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons, or 36 months, before his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21)."

So, providing the club registers the January signings, including Fernandez, then they should all be eligible to play against Fulham on Friday.
