Chelsea handed chance of multi-million windfall amid 'significant' Newcastle transfer interest

Newcastle United reportedly hold a 'significant interest' in signing Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi this summer as Eddie Howe continues the Saudi Arabia bank-rolled era at St James' Park.

The Magpies produced an impressive second-half of the season with a big January transfer window undoubtedly playing its part. Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Bruno Guimaraes and Dan Burn were all signed as they steered comfortably clear of relegation and sparked excitement as to what the 2022-23 campaign could bring.

They have already completed three new signings this summer including Nick Pope, Sven Botman and the permanent signing of Matt Targett. They are unlikely to finish there either as they lock their focus on a European place.

They also look set to be in constant contact with Chelsea as well. While Bayer Leverkusen's Moussa Diaby reportedly remains their top target, 90Min have reported that they hold a 'serious interest' in Hudson-Odoi as an alternative.

The 21-year-old has struggled for regular minutes since Thomas Tuchel's appointment. Still, with Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner and Christian Pulisic potentially on their way out, there does not appear to be any intention to sell Hudson-Odoi. Antonio Rudiger, Romelu Lukaku and Andreas Christensen have all departed and supporters will be eager to see some acquisitions as soon as possible.

But that does not mean they should rule out the sale of Hudson-Odoi. The winger penned a new deal in 2019 that took his wage to £120,000 a week, around £6.2 million per year so Todd Boehly has the opportunity to bring in a sizeable windfall, especially with two years still remaining on his contract.
