Chelsea handed big Christopher Nkunku transfer blow amid Manchester United interest

Chelsea may be about to miss out on one of their main attacking transfer targets this summer. According to Leipziger Volkszeitung, Christopher Nkunku will not be moving to Chelsea or Manchester United, who are also said to be interested, this summer and is expected to remain at RB Leipzig.

football.london reported last month that the Blues wanted to bring the 24-year-old to the club in the summer transfer window. However, Leipzig are determined to keep hold of the France international and have been locked in negotiations in an attempt to persuade him to extend his contract at the Red Bull Arena.

Paris Saint-Germain have been credited with an interest in Nkunku, despite selling him to Leipzig in 2019. Man United have also been linked with the attacker as Erik ten Hag looks to rebuild the squad at Old Trafford.

The report from the Leipzig-based outlet, though, claims that the Frenchman could be set to put pen to paper on a new contract. This might come as a surprise when taking Nkunku's comments from last month into consideration.

He told L'Equipe: "It's flattering the biggest clubs in the world interested in me. But it's also flattering that Leipzig are doing everything to keep me.

"Here we are in June, in the national team, and I am focused on this gathering [with the French national team]. The transfer window is not open, I do not focus on it.

"Afterwards, as I have always said, PSG is my home, my heart club, where I was trained. I don't close any doors. Everything is possible in football."

Chelsea may need to turn their attention to the club's other targets now if Nkunku is indeed set to stay. football.london understands the Blues have a keen interest in both Ousmane Dembele and Gabriel Jesus.
