Edouard Mendy
Chelsea's number one goalkeeper made a good early stop to deny Bukayo Saka but could do nothing to stop Gabriel Jesus from opening the scoring soon after at the Camping World Stadium. Played a poor pass out in the build-up to Martin Odegaard's strike. 5
Reece James
Deployed on the right of a back four, James had very little impact in the final third during the opening 30 minutes. He did come to life later in the half and produced two good crosses into the Arsenal penalty area, one of which was met by Kai Havertz but the German couldn't direct a header towards goal. 6

Trevoh Chalobah
Started as the right centre-back, Chalobah began the game well and did well to cut out a dangerous ball forward. Unfortunately, he then gifted possession to Arsenal and it enabled Jesus to score. The academy graduate wasn't able to see out the 45 minutes due to a knee injury. 5
Thiago Silva
Amid the defensive chaos, Silva was a calm presence. He made two important interceptions and defended well to close off a chance for Gabriel Martinelli. Produced one important tackle late in the half to close off a shooting opportunity for Jesus. Chelsea's standout. 7
Emerson Palmieri
It was somewhat surprising that the Italian started ahead of Ben Chilwell at left-back, but Emerson's performance will have done little to threaten the England international's place on a regular basis. Emerson was very poor in possession and struggled to contain Saka. 5
Jorginho
Deployed at the base of a midfield three, Jorginho started the contest well but became overwhelmed as the opening period progressed. The Italian wasn't able to dictate Chelsea's build-up play and momentarily switched off prior to Odegaard firing home Arsenal's second. 6
Conor Gallagher
The academy graduate threw himself into a couple of early challenges on Saka but didn't get near the ball. Gallagher showed plenty of energy but lacked the quality shown in his earlier pre-season appearances. 5
Mason Mount
Started as a number eight in midfield, Mount was anonymous for much of the opening period. He did almost find the net late on with a shot across goal after being teed up by Sterling but saw his effort rebound off the post. 5
Raheem Sterling
Chelsea's biggest threat in the first half, although given the performance of those around Sterling, that is no great claim. There were a couple of nice bursts forward from the England international and he did play the pass to Mount for Chelsea's best opportunity of the half. 6
Kai Havertz
For much of the first half, Havertz drifted out to the right but couldn't get into the contest. His best chance came via a James cross but the German international couldn't make anything of it. 5
Timo Werner
A very poor 45 minutes for the German. He twice gave away possession cheaply in the Arsenal half and knocked the ball out of play when trying to bring down a routine Trevoh Chalobah pass. Appears completely devoid of confidence. 4
