Chelsea have been given the green light to complete a move for striker Cristiano Ronaldo on a free transfer amid contract offers from other teams. The 37-year-old recently became a free agent after having his contract mutually terminated at Manchester United following his controversial interview with Piers Morgan.
"I feel betrayed," Ronaldo told Morgan as part of an interview for TalkTV and the Sun. "Some people don't want me here not only this year, but last year too." With those actions causing an exit from Old Trafford, the Portugal international will be free to discuss a move with any club.
However, focus will currently be on the World Cup, where he and his Portugal side have already earned a place in the last 16 of the competition. In just two matches in the tournament, Ronaldo has managed to match his tally for the Premier League season with one goal.

While he has struggled for form in the limited game time he has had, his 20-plus goal return last season for United shows he is still capable of finding the back of the net. For a side like Chelsea, who were linked with a move in the summer and now a return in the coming weeks, that could prove to be the difference in their goalscoring troubles.
They may have to move fast though as they aren't the only team eyeing a switch as reports claim that Saudi Arabian side Al Nassr have made an offer of a two-and-a-half-year deal worth up to £432million, according to Marca. If Chelsea have any doubts over whether to make a move, one of their own players may have told them to do just that.
That's because of Reece James' tweet as part of a Q and A, where a fan asked if he prefers Messi or Ronaldo, simply replying: "Ronaldo." It could be the green light the Blues need to finally trigger a deal for the striker.
