Chelsea given clear Ajax message on Hakim Ziyech exit amid January transfer link to former club

Chelsea have been handed a clear answer from Ajax regarding a return for Hakim Ziyech to the club amid links with an exit this January. The Morocco international has struggled to hit his best form during his time at Stamford Bridge, having impressed while in the Netherlands.

The 29-year-old has often featured just behind the striker for the Blues, but with a lack of consistency in that role or in the first-team, he has yet to put a run of form together. He showed glimpses of his quality during the winter World Cup though, guiding his country to the semi-finals with some impressive performances.

Despite his displays in Qatar, Graham Potter warned the forward that he must be patient over a chance in the side. He said: "At Chelsea, there are always good players who aren't in the starting XI and have to be patient. Delighted for him, and kept in touch with him over the World Cup. Delighted for him that he got the game time, delighted for him that he helped his team, he's a good guy and he's got quality."

Ziyech has featured since his return and started the 1-0 defeat to Manchester City on Thursday night, but there remains plenty of uncertainty since he failed to secure a move away from the club in the summer. AC Milan were one of those sides linked along with a potential homecoming with former club Ajax, where he had some of the best form of his career so far.

With January offering another chance to make the switch, the Dutch side have responded to the possibility of a move for the forward. Ajax head coach Alfred Schreuder told reporters: "I don’t think so," when asked if Ziyech could join the club again. "We have enough options up front. Ziyech has a price tag as well, it’s not a priority."

With plenty of weeks remaining in the transfer window, it remains to be seen what may come for Ziyech and his future at Stamford Bridge. However, a return to Ajax seems unlikely at this stage.
