Chelsea get added pressure to complete Enzo Fernandez transfer as Liverpool move with £62m bid

Chelsea will have to remain calm in a busy and frantic January transfer window as a crucial time in the club's immediate future comes into prominence. Although some good proactive work has been done to add youth to the squad in an attempt to shore up future squads there is a more pressing need for players.

Five players that featured against Nottingham Forest were 30 or older despite the plan being to transform Chelsea into a younger and hungrier set of players. That takes time, but January offers an opportunity to make amends for previous failures.

With Enzo Fernandez now the main priority for the window Chelsea are moving quickly to get a deal done for the 21-year-old World Cup star. He has become their top target for the winter but isn't an easy move to get over the line. With a massive release clause and wider competition for his signature, Chelsea are under pressure to complete the signing.

After the New Year's Day draw with Nottingham Forest further emphasised the need for fresher blood in the squad, there is now an extra reason to be on edge. Liverpool, who were one of the teams hoping to sign the Benfica star, have reportedly made progress in their own attempts to sign a midfielder.

The Reds are interested in the same group of players as Chelsea but may have made a vital step towards taking one away from the Blues with German publication Bild writing that they are set to reach a €‎70million (£62million) deal with Brighton for Moises Caicedo. The Ecuadorian was also on the radar for Graham Potter as an alternative option in the centre of the park.

The 21-year-old was developed excellently under Potter on the south coast and attracted Chelsea and Manchester United over the summer but could be taken off the market soon with Jurgen Klopp seemingly winning this race. With Chelsea losing out on this one their is even more need for them to push on with completing a move for Fernandez in order to bolster their squad in the right way.
