Chelsea get £70m Frenkie de Jong lesson as Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang makes statement

Your Chelsea morning digest on Thursday, September 1. Transfer deadline day edition.

Chelsea's interest in Alvarez

In an attempt to secure a late defensive midfield addition to the squad, Thomas Tuchel has turned attention to Edson Alvarez from Ajax.

The Blues have reportedly made a £43m bid for the player, with the Dutch Telegraph reporting that a deal is still possible despite the window in the Netherlands closing on August 31.

Chelsea are also looking at Ibrahim Sangare, too, with the PSV player being a long-term target for the club. He would reportedly cost around £45m, although the chances of both players being signed is low.

Aubameyang makes statement

Chelsea are still struggling to agree a deal with Barcelona over the transfer of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the striker remains the centre of intense talks between the two clubs.

The Gabon forward is valued at £25m by the Spanish side, but Chelsea wants to push a deal including Marcos Alonso to lower the cash sum. Whilst at his home in Spain, Aubameyang became the victim of a threatening burglary last week.

After the incident where he and his wife were assaulted, valuable items were stolen. The striker has now issued a statement regarding the break-in.

De Jong lesson

With Billy Gilmour set to leave the club, a move to Brighton looks likely, Chelsea are still chasing a new midfielder, and Tuchel doesn't seem keen to give the young Scot a chance despite him making the bench against Southampton.

It's something that could end up costing Chelsea in the latter weeks of the window.
