Chelsea forward Armando Broja confirms he has undergone surgery on season-ending injury issue

Armando Broja has revealed he underwent surgery on Wednesday morning after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament. The Albania international suffered the injury in Chelsea's 1-0 defet to Aston Villa in the Al Wahda Challenge Cup in Abu Dhabi .

Broja went down in the opening half of the clash against the Villans when his knee appeared to buckle as competed with Ezri Konsa. The severity made itself clear as the Albania international screamed in agony and left the field via a stretcher after a number of minutes.

Chelsea confirmed last week that Broja would be required to go under the knife and would also miss the remainder of the 2022/23 season. In the immediate aftermath of the news the 21-year-old had conceded it had been difficult to take on board.

The former Southampton loanee, who had already 18 appearances this term and started Chelsea's last two matches, has now seen a successful surgery and is looking head to his recovery.

He said: "Pleased to say I underwent a successful operation this morning. Time to rest up before starting my road to recovery. Thank you once again to everyone who has sent messages of support."

Chelsea's Premier League preparations have continued to be disrupted by injury with Wesley Fofana needing to be replaced in a game against Brentford. The French defender who had been well on his way to full recovery from the injury he picked up against AC Milan in October, suffered a knee injury during the behind-closed-doors match.
