Chelsea FC XI vs Real Madrid: Starting lineup, confirmed team news, injury latest for Champions League today

Chelsea welcome back Christian Pulisic for today’s first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie with Real Madrid - but have dropped Marcos Alonso.

The winger was left out of the squad entirely for Saturday’s shock 4-1 home defeat by Brentford after suffering from jet lag following the USA’s match against Costa Rica.

Pulisic is back in the XI at Stamford Bridge this evening, although Callum Hudson-Odoi (Achilles and back) misses out again along with Ben Chilwell (knee).

Chelsea were heavily criticised for their display against Brentford at the weekend and Tuchel returns to his typical 3-4-2-1 system for the visit of Madrid but with Cesar Azpilicueta at left wing-back.

The Blues manager was impressed with Kai Havertz’s performance despite the defeat and the German continues up front, flanked by Mason Mount and Pulisic.

Jorginho also returns to the starting XI with Reece James the fourth change after coming off the bench on Saturday.

Chelsea XI: Mendy; Christensen, Silva, Rudiger; James, Jorginho, Kante, Azpilicueta; Mount, Pulisic; Havertz.

Subs: Kepa, Bettinelli, Chalobah, Alonso, Sarr, Kovacic, Lukaku, Werner, Kenedy, Loftus-Cheek, Saul, Ziyech.
