Chelsea fans send Reece James message after Trent Alexander-Arnold error in Man City v Liverpool

Chelsea supporters have been mocking Trent Alexander-Arnold on social media following his mistake in Liverpool's huge clash with Manchester City. The Reds defender switched off at the far post, allowing Gabriel Jesus to put the ball beyond Alisson.

City took the lead early on through Kevin de Bruyne, but Liverpool equalised not too long later, with Alexander-Arnold teeing up Diogo Jota. However, it was the right-back's defensive abilities, that have often been criticised, that let him down on 36 minutes.

Joao Cancelo's cross to the far post perhaps should have been dealt with but Alexander-Arnold's lapse moment allowed Jesus time and space to convert and restore the champions' advantage in Manchester. The Liverpool defender has often been compared to Reece James, Chelsea's English right-back, with both offering so much to their respective teams.

James has been superb this season for the Blues. The England international has struggled with injuries, but when he has been fit, he's been one of Thomas Tuchel's top performers.

There's an argument, especially from Chelsea fans, that James is the superior right-back to Trent. So, it comes as no shock whatsoever, that Blues supporters took to social media after Alexander-Arnold's mistake against Manchester City.

James recently returned to injury against Burnley, although he suffered another problem not too long after, where the defender scored a superb solo goal. Speaking after the game, Tuchel waxed lyrical about James and his importance to the Chelsea side.

He said: "We missed him for such a long time that we almost got used to it. I think it was like nine weeks and we played something like 25 matches in that time.

"We were constantly trying to find solutions and we did find solutions as a team, and we managed to win games and even trophies in this period. But once he is back and plays three times, and first time from the beginning, you see what we missed. Huge quality and it’s very impressive how decisive he is in training and in the games.

"These positions are very important positions if you play with this structure and it’s the same on the left side. So it puts things into perspective when you see what we missed and I am very happy that he came back like this."
