Chelsea fans can't understand Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang transfer after debut vs Dinamo Zagreb

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang had a nightmare debut for Chelsea with his new side falling to defeat Dinamo Zagreb in their Champions League group stage opener.

Thomas Tuchel handed Aubameyang his debut after the Gabon striker missed Chelsea's win against West Ham as he was fitted for a mask to protect his injured jaw. He was awarded a first start in Croatia but couldn't help his side find an answer to their goalscoring woes.

Tuchel's side laboured in attack once more and despite a lively start, once Mislav Orsic opened the scoring, Aubameyang's impact became less and less noticeable. He did have several early moments to excite Blues fans, springing to life around the box in order to create space but choosing to pass in situations that would have favoured a shot at goal.

The result now means Chelsea have only scored eight goals in seven matches, with only five of those coming from open play. Aubameyang, with his previous Premier League pedigree and a brilliant relationship with Tuchel, was seen as the answer.

The 33-year-old was substituted in the second half for Armando Broja to come on. The forward ended the match without a shot to his name and struggled as Chelsea once more struggled to create chances throughout the entire match.

Here's how fans reacted to the performance of the new Chelsea No. 9.

@Wirjil: I was right about Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. Not Chelsea material.

@FTbettingtips: I still can’t understand why Chelsea signed Cucurella, Forfana and Aubameyang. The money should’ve been spent on a number 9 that can actually score.

@franklinto: If Chelsea didn’t sign Aubameyang, I would confidently say they’re not making top 4 this season.

@Naifsedge: Can someone tell me what’s the difference between Lukaku and Aubameyang in 2022. Go ahead, I’ll wait

@Aboutrika__: Aubameyang regrets joining Chelsea already

@CFCDUBois: Aubameyang is going to do a Lukaku interview tomorrow to return to Barcelona isn’t he

@TedLeSaux: Aubameyang will not be a success at Chelsea. Save this tweet. He’s got an ego like Lukaku and isn’t a team player. Chelsea don’t get too 4 this year either. Sorry Chelsea fans

@RocgailD: Revenge is sweet Aubameyang joining Chelsea

@BenevolentChap: Aubameyang is a joke.

@Wirjil|: A well deserved defeat in Zagreb. Chelsea frontline is completely docile, toothless and helpless. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang isn’t a Chelsea material. Hakim Ziyech doesn’t even wanna be hear. Aside from his #UCL final winner, Kai Havertz is an absolute flop. The team is a mess.

@DejiOluwatobi: Aubameyang may not be prolific with this team.

@AfcT0R: Wouldn't be like Aubameyang being offside. seen enough off that at Arsenal Hahah

@GunnerClive: Aubameyang is way past his best . In fact he was past his best a year ago. That’s one of the reasons why Arsenal didn’t want to keep him. Not sure what Chelsea were thinking? Didn’t they realise he’s 33? He’s hardly going to get better is he…

@skrtu_mania: Aubameyang what have you gotten yourself into

@TommyMushona: Aubameyang is an Arsenal man, what do you lots expect?
