Chelsea face £50m Mason Mount transfer ultimatum as Man United prepare new bid

Chelsea are set to face a "take it or leave it" transfer offer from Manchester United for midfielder Mason Mount in the coming days. It comes as the future of the Cobham Academy graduate hangs in the balance, with just the one-year remaining on his contract at the club.

Reports have stated that the midfielder is likely to leave the Blues on a free transfer next summer if he doesn't secure a move away this window. With that in mind, the hierarchy face a dilemma, not looking to undervalue a player of his ability while also ensuring they don't miss out on the chance of a fee.

Plenty of clubs have been linked, with Arsenal and Liverpool amongst those, but it has been Man United that appear to be the frontrunners. Personal terms have been claimed to not be an issue for the Red Devils, leaving just the fee itself to be sorted between the clubs.

Chelsea currently value the 24-year-old at £70million, which may be a difficult fee to reach for clubs when considering the time left on his deal. United made an opening bid at £40million earlier in the window, which was promptly turned down from the Blues as they held out for more.

But their old foe may have drawn the line with a clear ultimatum to the west London club over whether a deal will be agreed or not. That's because, according to the Mirror, United are preparing an offer they have declared the final one, prompting Chelsea to either take it or leave it.

This bid is set to be an increase on the £40million, instead coming in at £50million, with the club feeling their valuation is more realistic than the £70million the Blues have set. It remains to be seen whether any negotiations may change that fee or if it will be accepted or rejected at this stage.
