Chelsea are interested in signing highly-rated Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back Max Kilman, according to talkSPORT.
The 24-year-old English defender has been in fine form for Bruno Lage's side this season and has started every Premier League game under the former Benfica manager.
His performances have caught the attention of many clubs across England and today's developments suggest that Thomas Tuchel is keen on adding Kilman to his squad.
Chelsea are expected to have a very busy transfer window and strengthening the backline is a must, especially when considering that a fair few first-team members have doubtful futures currently.
Antonio Rudiger, Cesar Azpilicueta and Andreas Christensen are all out of contract in the summer, with neither at this stage looking likely to commit their long term futures at the club.
It, therefore, makes sense that the club are exploring the centre back market and given the fact that Kilman is a boyhood Blues fan, Chelsea could have the advantage in the race to acquire his signature.
When diving deeper into Kilman's role for Wolves, it appears that he wouldn't have too many issues in slotting into Tuchel's system.
Since arriving at Stamford Bridge, the German manager has predominantly favoured a 3-4-3 system, consisting of three central defenders, two wingbacks, a double pivot and a front three, which is a very similar formation to the one Lage deploys at Wolves.
Naturally left-footed, Kilman is comfortable playing in both a back three and a back four but can also deputise at left-back if needed.
His versatility is certainly an attractive attribute and would give Tuchel plenty of flexibility in terms of how he could set the team-up.
According to transfermarkt, Kilman is valued at £8.1 million but given the fact that he is English and his current deal runs out in June 2026, it's expected that a significantly higher fee would be needed to prize him away from Molineux.
