Chelsea eye Liverpool transfer trick for next Luis Diaz amid Anthony Gordon and Rafael Leao bid

Chelsea could look to repeat a transfer trick used by Premier League rivals Liverpool back in January, with reports surrounding interest in another winger. It comes as the Blues continue to be active in the market, with just over one week remaining to get any final business done until next year.

Thomas Tuchel has already added three first-team names, while other signings have joined with a view to building a promising future at the football club. Discussing the possibility of new signings in the coming days, the German coach said after defeat to Leeds: "I don't know. We need to wait. The transfer period is still open. It gets later and later, and we need to focus on what we have and what we can do.

"We can obviously play at a high level, but we lost track when there was no need. We were not forced to lose track. Everything was going well. We can win with this team in Leeds, everything was going well, and we had goalscoring opportunities. It went the other way, and I think it was more our fault than anyone else's credit."

Plenty of players continue to be linked, with Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana and Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang the subject of talks over a switch. However, it also appears that a wide forward could be on the cards too, given the different profiles also being rumoured.

A report from the Times claims that Chelsea are confident of landing Everton youngster Anthony Gordon for roughly £60million this week. It also cites that AC Milan winger Rafael Leao is of interest, with a deal being worked around a move to Stamford Bridge in the window.

However, another interesting name has been linked with the Blues and that is Porto winger Pepe. Record reports that the 25-year-old is a target for Tuchel, however they have set a €70million (£59million) price tag, due to the release clause in his contract.

The Brazilian has seen a rise in the Portuguese side's first-team over the past season, with Luis Diaz moving on to Liverpool and leaving a void that needed to be filled. The Reds' signing of the Colombian was inspired and kicked them on towards a title challenge, having become a regular with the loss of Sadio Mane.

It remains to be seen if a deal is possible, especially at the price quoted by Porto. However, the Blues appear to have plenty of options to choose from should any of their other attempts fail.
