Chelsea drop Nicolas Jackson injury update ahead of Tottenham derby clash

Nicolas Jackson appears on track to make his Chelsea return next week after being spotted in Blues training on Wednesday.

Jackson has not featured since picking up a hamstring injury in the deadline day victory over West Ham in early February but could make his comeback in next Thursday’s London derby against Tottenham.

Reserve centre-forward Marc Guiu was also injured in the West Ham game just hours before the transfer window closed and the twin blow has left Enzo Maresca’s side short of goals for much of the period since.

Maresca had said, following the defeat at Arsenal prior to the international break, that Jackson would be fit when the club campaign resumed.

The Chelsea website issued a positive update on Wednesday, sharing a picture of Jackson working in the gym at Cobham but confirming that he has been training “on the grass”.

The Senegalese striker made a superb start to the season, scoring nine times in his first 15 Premier League games, but was on an eight-game goal drought when the injury struck.

Chelsea are yet to offer any fresh update on the progress of Noni Madueke and Cole Palmer.

Palmer missed the loss to Arsenal before pulling out of England duty with a minor injury, with Maresca suggesting at the time he, too, would be back after the international break.

The same goes for winger Madueke, who had been out with a hamstring problem of his own since the defeat to Brighton in the middle of last month.
