Chelsea defender Renato Veiga has completed his loan move to Juventus.

The 21-year-old has joined the Serie A side until the end of the season, with the deal including no option or obligation to make it a permanent deal in the summer.

Veiga’s wages will be covered in full by Juventus, who will pay a loan fee of around £4.2million.

Juventus officially unveiled Veiga on Monday night, as it was announced he would wear the number 12 shirt for the Italian club.

That shirt was previously worn by Alex Sandro, until he left last summer to join Brazilian side Flamengo.

Veiga has played only 177 minutes of Premier League football this season, having signed from Basel from £12m in July. He signed a seven-year deal at Stamford Bridge,

It is understood that Veiga wants more regular minutes and to play at centre-back as he eyes a place in Portugal’s squad at next year’s World Cup.

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca said earlier this month: “I had a chat with Renato.

“In terms of playing in the position that he is playing with us, that gave him the chance to join the national team and also probably the chance to get this speculation around him. That means clubs are looking for him. Clubs look for players that are doing well, not that are doing badly.

“If there is a player who just wants to play in just one position, they are going to struggle. They have to adapt, they have to learn to play in different positions, which is a good thing for the team.”
