Chelsea defender Levi Colwill and Jude Bellingham withdraw from England squad after injury assessment

Chelsea's Levi Colwill and Jude Bellingham have both withdrawn from the England squad due to injury.

The pair reported to St George's Park on Monday, and on Tuesday morning were deemed unfit for the Euro 2024 qualifying double-header against Malta and North Macedonia.

Bellingham sat out Real Madrid's win over Valencia on Saturday with a shoulder injury, while Colwill is also nursing a shoulder problem and missed Chelsea's 4-4 draw with Manchester City on Sunday.

The Football Association (FA) said that both players would return to their clubs to continue rehabilitation.

Meanwhile, Marcus Rashford and Kalvin Phillips will meet up with England later this week owing to personal matters, leaving them as doubts for Friday's game against Malta at Wembley.

James Maddison, Callum Wilson and Lewis Dunk have already withdrawn from the initial squad, with Cole Palmer, Ezri Konsa and Rico Lewis on Monday earning maiden call-ups as replacements.

England have already qualified for Euro 2024 but Gareth Southgate has said they need the points against Malta at Wembley on Friday and in Monday's visit to Skopje to ensure they are among the top seeds in Germany next summer.
