Chelsea could receive huge transfer windfall as Arsenal pursue £50m deal for Marc Guehi

Arsenal could hand London rivals Chelsea a huge boost to their transfer funds if they complete the signing of Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi. The Gunners also want to strengthen their defence and football.london understands Guehi is among the targets being considered.

Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu can play at centre-back, but Mikel Arteta sees them remaining as full-backs long-term meaning a new central defender is required to add depth and quality to the squad in a key area. William Saliba's injury problems in recent months have also highlighted the need for further depth at centre-back.

Chelsea will net millions in extra revenue to fund their squad overhaul this summer if Guehi departs Palace to join Arsenal. A report from The Daily Mail has revealed that the previous Blues' regime secured a 20 per cent sell-on clause as part of the deal that saw the England defender leave Stamford Bridge for Selhurst Park in 2021.

Palace have set a £50 million asking price for the 22-year-old to leave the club this summer meaning Chelsea could receive a windfall in the region of £10 million if Arsenal meet that fee. Manchester United also hold an interest in Guehi and could rival the Gunners for his signature ahead of next season.

The English defender has been ever-present in the Palace side this term, making 37 appearances in all competitions. Guehi is considered to be one of the most talented young defenders in the Premier League and the Blues will be hoping Palace can receive a huge fee for his services to help fund their own transfer business.

Todd Boehly is looking to sell many players this summer and trim down the senior squad. Mauricio Pochettino is favourite to become Graham Potter's permanent successor at Stamford Bridge and is looking to sign a new goalkeeper, central midfielder and striker - but that will only happen once current members of the squad have been sold.
