Levi Colwill will ask to leave Chelsea football club if they sign one more defender in the transfer window. The 19-year-old is eager for first-team football with the Blues and with Thomas Tuchel already adding Kalidou Koulibaly to his lineup, Colwill may feel inclined to fulfill his future elsewhere. Chelsea are one step closer to signing Jules Kounde with the Telegraph's Matt Law and transfer guru Fabrizio Romano indicating that the saga is moving in the right direction.
A number of clubs are interested in the young England international including Premier League sides Crystal Palace, Leicester, and Arsenal, according to Simon Johnson of The Athletic. Following a promising season with Championship side Huddersfield last season, there was bound to be a spike in interest for Colwill. He has shown to be yet another Chelsea academy prospect destined to have a bright future.
Despite already signing Kalidou Koulibaly the Blues are still eager on signing at least one other defender. They have lost Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen this summer, so it's only right to find suitable replacements. For Colwill it may be too early for Thomas Tuchel to rely on him but there's the issue of potentially losing another gem in handing him over to another Premier League Club.
Crystal Palace are thought to be the front runner for Levi Colwill's signature. Simon Johnson reports that the Eagles are thought to be confident in securing his services. It'll be a nice reunion with Marc Guehi if this move was to transpire. Guehi is another one of Chelsea's academy talents that were allowed to leave in order to find his feet elsewhere. He was sold with a fee of around £20 million and has flourished ever since. He marked his debut season alongside Conor Gallagher as one of the best players in the squad and cemented a starting position under Patrick Viera.
It's easy for Colwill to take a look at Guehi's career and be determined to make a move at such a young age. Chelsea are looking at close to signing 24-year-old Jules Kounde and still looking at 26-year-old Presnel Kimpembe. Both centre-backs are yet to reach their prime years which causes alarm bells on Colwill's realistic chances of breaking into the starting 11. The young star is confident in his defensive ability and will want a certain level of guarantee that he will have a future with Chelsea.
Colwill has been out of the pre-season squad due to a minor injury. He was left out of Chelsea's first pre-season match after complaining about a tight thigh but hopefully, fans will get to see him play in Chelsea blue before he ultimately makes his decision. It would be a massive blow for the Blues to lose such talent before having a fair chance.
