Chelsea consider double transfer opportunity in wake of Frank Lampard Everton sacking

Chelsea look set to take advantage of the crisis ensuing at Everton following the sacking of Frank Lampard. The 44-year-old looks set to be dismissed from his position as head coach at Goodison Park, with the Toffees in the relegation zone, although no official confirmation on that has yet come from the club.

According to a number of publications, Lampard has been relieved from his duties in Merseyside. Everton are winless in eight Premier League games and sit second from bottom in the table as a result.

Despite parachute payments, relegation from the English top-flight would lead to drastic financial consequences. So, anticipating that the Toffees may look to release players to reduce their wage bill, Chelsea are reportedly keen to capitalise on a number of 'opportunities' at Everton before the January transfer window slams shut.

According to The Telegraph, the Blues have shown an interest in Anthony Gordon and Amadou Onana ahead of what is set to be a frantic end to the month. The report states that Chelsea are 'considering whether or not to try and take advantage' of the ensuing crisis at Everton.

Gordon was been heavily linked with a move to west London in the summer but a move failed to materialise. football.london understood that Chelsea were prepared to pay as much as £60million for the winger.

However, since the Blues' previous bids in the summer, the 21-year-old has failed to prove why he warrants such an eye-watering price tag. Gordon has featured 16 times for Everton in the Premier League this season, directly contributing towards just three goals.

In October, Lampard issued an update on Gordon's future. As quoted by Sky Sports, speaking ahead of the Toffees' clash with Newcastle United, he said: "I have no concerns about the noise around the contract, and I have spoken to him about it.

"Generally, I'm all for players getting what they deserve in their contracts. That is a separate story. My main concern as a manager is getting Anthony to play at his best. He is our player, he will remain that for a long time, and I think we showed that with our intention in the summer."

Then, when asked whether he thinks Gordon has been distracted by speculation linking him with a move to Chelsea, Lampard replied: "No - I hope not. He's a young player, so I shouldn't just assume that what happened at the back end of the window doesn't affect him, doesn't affect the feeling around him."
