Chelsea consider Andrey Santos loan recall in January amid Nottingham Forest struggle

Chelsea could recall Andrey Santos from Nottingham Forest in January due to a lack of game-time since his loan move to the City Ground.

The 19-year-old Brazilian has featured for just 96 minutes in two appearances since joining Forest in the summer.

He was not even on the bench for their 3-2 defeat at West Ham before the international break and Chelsea could activate a break clause in his season-long loan deal.

Santos joined Chelsea in a £16million deal from Vasco de Gama in January and the Blues have high hopes for the teenage midfielder, who earlier this year captained Brazil to the South American Under-20 Championship.

He also ended that tournament as joint-top scorer with six goals and is viewed as one of the top young talents in world football.

Forest coach Steve Cooper is renowned for working with emerging young talent and Chelsea had hoped that a move to the City Ground would be good for his development.

But the moved has not worked out and Chelsea can recall him in January if he has not played a certain number of games.

His only start so far this season came in a 1-0 Carabao Cup defeat by Burnley in August, while his sole Premier League appearance was as an 83rd-minute substitute in a 3-0 loss against Liverpool at Anfield in October.

If recalled, Chelsea could look to send him back out on loan for the second half of the season or he could join back up with Mauricio Pochettino’s first-team squad.
