Chelsea can sign their own 'Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe' in January window

Chelsea are interested in signing PSV Eindhoven winger Noni Madueke this month, football.london understands. The 20-year-old forward is viewed as an option for the attacking ranks to help bolster Graham Potter's squad in both short-and-long-term planning.

Madueke has shown plenty of promise for the Dutch side in the previous season, though an ankle injury plagued the start of the current campaign and he has yet to cement a place in the first-team since. The former Crystal Palace and Tottenham academy prospect signed a new deal at the club in 2021, which is set to keep him there until 2025.

A move for Madueke comes amid a change of transfer philosophy with the introduction of the new ownership, where the focus is on youthful signings, amid a whole host of injury troubles at the club. Potter had as many as 10 first-team stars out at one time this month, coinciding with a dip in form.

The need for a short-term influx of depth and quality is huge while there's a clear desire to build for the future too, all coming at a huge cost. Three signings have already been confirmed to fit this plan, with David Datro Fofana, Andrey Santos and Benoit Badiashile joining - with Atletico Madrid's Joao Felix expected to be incoming number four on loan.

Madueke could join in a similar strategy laid out by the board and with it he could bring a key quality of some of the biggest stars in the game. Speaking to reporters in 2021, the youngster said: "All my idols – people like Neymar, Ronaldo, Messi and the new generation guys like [Kylian] Mbappe – play with a confident arrogance. That is something I like and try to implement in my game as well.

“I have high expectations of myself. To me I feel I can be one of the best players in the league and that’s what I want to do. I want to do well for my team.

"We have already won the Super Cup, got a taste of what it is to win something. I want to make sure I am as important to this team (England under-21s) as my team back home at club level. We have to keep that mindset and hunger and competitive desire, and there is talent enough for us to be successful.”

It remains to be seen if such a raw talent could add some immediate quality to the side in the coming weeks, but he could certainly prove to be an important signing for the future.
