Chelsea have banned a season ticket holder “indefinitely” following allegations of racist abuse against Tottenham star Son Heung-min.

Footage emerged on social media of a fan appearing to make a racially aggravated gesture towards the South Korean player in the clubs’ Premier League meeting earlier this month.

An investigation was launched with Chelsea condemning the incident as “totally abhorrent” at the time, with the Metropolitan Police aware of the allegations.

On Saturday, the west London club confirmed a season ticket holder had been identified and banned from attending Chelsea games indefinitely.

“Following our statement this week on racist abuse at the Tottenham game last Sunday, Chelsea Football Club can confirm that it has identified and banned a season ticket holder indefinitely,” a statement read.

Manchester United suspended three season-ticket holders after Son received online abuse following Spurs’ 3-1 defeat by the Red Devils in April 2021, while in 2019 a West Ham fan was fined for racially abusing Son during a cup tie.

Last month, Son revealed he had suffered racist abuse when he moved to Germany from Korea as a teenager and said he enjoyed taking revenge by knocking the defending champions out of the 2018 World Cup.

“I moved to Germany when I was young and went through so many difficult moments,” Son said at an event in Seoul. “I faced a lot of racism. And while going through such a really difficult time, I had a lot of thoughts on my mind I should get my revenge one day.”
