Chelsea announce new striker signing with £6m deal for Southampton striker Jimmy-Jay Morgan

Chelsea have announced the signing of 17-year-old Southampton striker Jimmy-Jay Morgan for an initial £3million fee, plus a further £3m in add-ons.

The highly sought-after youngster had been an unused substitute at St Mary’s but joins primarily to bolster the Blues’ academy teams.

The teen forward, who is able to score with his head and both feet, has signed a contract until June 2026.

Morgan spent time in Chelsea’s academy after being spotted at the age of eight but returned to Southampton at 11 due to the difficulty of long car journeys to and from his home on the south coast.

As Standard Sport reported earlier this month, the considerable size of the capital club’s offer and his refusal to sign a new contract forced Southampton to accept the sale despite Morgan having 18 months left on his current deal.

The Blues are keen to invest heavily in their academy teams as part of their Vision 2030 plans and beat a host of clubs, including Leeds, to his signature.

Chelsea head of youth development and recruitment Jim Fraser said: “In signing Jimmy-Jay we have added a player with good potential to our Academy squads. His ability marks him out as an exciting striker and we are delighted he has chosen Chelsea for this next, important stage of his development.”
