Chelsea and Tottenham to learn fate of Anthony Gordon Newcastle transfer amid huge domino effect

Chelsea and Tottenham are set to face the repercussions of the domino effect which follows Anthony Gordon's move to Newcastle United. The 21-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Stamford Bridge in the summer as Thomas Tuchel looked to bolster his frontline.

football.london understood that the Blues were prepared to pay as much as £60million for the winger. But, a move ultimately fell through, with the west Londoners unprepared to meet Everton's eye-watering asking price.

Gordon has featured 16 times for the Toffees in the Premier League this season, directly contributing towards just three goals. While he's failed to prove why he warrants said price tag, his move to Tyneside could hand Chelsea a huge blow in the race for top-four.

Eddie Howe now has extra firepower to rely upon in the second-half of the season, with Callum Wilson injury-prone and Allan Saint-Maximin facing an increasingly uncertain future at St. James' Park. Newcastle sit third in the Premier League; six points behind second-placed Manchester City, three points ahead of Spurs in fifth and ten ahead of Chelsea in tenth.

Gordon's move to the north east is also set to impact Tottenham. The north Londoners have been heavily linked with a move for James Maddison this month — but, so have Newcastle.

Now that the Magpies have completed the signing of the England youth international, it's believed that Antonio Conte's side could now have a free-run at the Leicester City talisman. And, Brendan Rodgers has previously hinted that there could be departures of key players in the coming transfer windows as Leicester struggle to financially compete in the English top-flight.

"It’s getting more difficult," he told reporters. "The financial resources, not just in the top six, makes it really difficult. Clubs have multiple injections of finances. We have one owner and one family. Each year it gets tougher. It doesn’t soften our ambition to be super competitive."

It's worth noting that the Foxes have recently signed Mateus Tete. The winger has arrived from the King Power Stadium on a short-term deal until June 2023 from Shakhtar Donetsk.

While his arrival doesn't spell the exit of Maddison, the stars seem to have aligned if Tottenham do wish to wrap up a deal.
