Chelsea already have 'one of the best' Premier League stars despite Jude Bellingham transfer aim

Chelsea have been told that they could already have 'one of the best' midfielders in the Premier League at their disposal despite Todd Boehly's mission to sign Jude Bellingham. The 19-year-old has been heavily linked with an exit from Borussia Dortmund for a while now as he continues to impress for club and country.

Bellingham, who sees his contract at the Signal Iduna Park expire in 2025, has been subject to long-term interest from the Blues, football.london understands. The west Londoners watched the teenage sensation during his time at Birmingham City academy but, after failing to act on their interest, the German outfit pounced and signed him instead.

The England international has quickly become one of the most coveted young players in Europe. According to The Telegraph, Chelsea understand that they're not favourites to sign Bellingham though that will not stop the club from trying as they look to further bolster Graham Potter's midfield options.

The report states that the Blues will 'keep open the lines of communication' with Bellingham's representatives, with co-owners Boehly and Behdad Eghbali identifying the Englishman as a 'top target'. While the west Londoners are seemingly eager to sign the Dortmund star, they've been told that they already have a midfielder who can be 'one of the best'.

Speaking to Best Sports Betting Canada, Patrik Berger has backed Enzo Fernandez to build a star-studded legacy on British soil. The former Premier League star said: "I like Enzo Fernandez. He had a great season in Portugal and I think he had a fantastic World Cup.

"He’s also only 21 and has the ability and quality to play for Chelsea without a doubt. The price tag put him under pressure a little bit because I think he's the most expensive player in Premier League history, but he is going to be okay.

"Though, I don't know him personally or I don't know what kind of person he is. But football wise, I think he has the quality to be one of the best players in the Premier League."

Chelsea will pay Benfica £106.7million in six instalments, making Fernandez the most expensive player in Premier League history. The Argentine, who penned an eight-and-a-half-year deal at Stamford Bridge, has sparked great controversy upon his arrival but he's quickly proved his worth.

While the Blues may already have Fernandez, Potter would undoubtedly be impartial to signing Bellingham too as his options run light. N'Golo Kante is set to leave at the end of the season, meanwhile Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Mateo Kovacic have suffered with injuries of late.
