Chelsea agree new transfer deal as MLS clubs join race to land promising wonderkid

Chelsea wonderkid Andrey Santos looks set to make a move away from the club on loan as work begins towards the youngster landing a work permit for the future. The Brazilian signed from Vasco da Gama in January this year in a move worth roughly £10million.

The 18-year-old has shown plenty of promise, impressing for Brazil in the South American Under-20s Championship, captaining the side and scoring six goals in the competition. The midfielder has shown his ability and promise, hinting at a big future for the Blues coming up.

"It's a very big opportunity for me," Santos said upon joining Chelsea, hopeful of breaking into the side. "This is a big club playing in big competitions like the Premier League, so I am very excited. The players here are so good and I am very happy to be here."

There would have been hopes that the youngster could feature in some capacity this season, but having failed to reach the quota for a work permit, a loan move to hit the threshold is required. A move to Palmeiras looked on the cards with a full agreement, but that soon broke down.

Other options were eyed as MLS side LA Galaxy were linked with a switch, while Fabrizio Romano also reports that LAFC are also in the race. However, the reporter adds that a return to Vasco da Gama is likely as Chelsea have given the go-ahead for a loan move to be completed.

It remains to be seen if that move will be completed, given the previous one had collapsed after an agreement, with plenty of clubs in the race in the eventuality it doesn't go through.
