Chelsea 2-0 Crystal Palace: Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek book FA Cup final date with Liverpool

Mason Mount and Ruben Loftus-Cheek sent Chelsea to their third consecutive FA Cup final.

After a largely uneventful first-half during which Thomas Tuchel’s side were fortunate not to have conceded as Edouard Mendy kept a Cheikhou Kouyate volley out, Chelsea ramped things up after the break.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek, brought on for the injured Mateo Kovacic halfway through the first-half, scored his first goal in three years with a fine volley after Tyrick Mitchell had been caught in possession.

Minutes later, Mount combined with the impressive Timo Werner to create space within a Crystal Palace defence that had been watertight in the first-half before slotting past Jack Butland.

Joachim Andersen could well have given the Palace fans – in good voice as usual – something to truly celebrate but his free header with the score at 2-0 could not be directed goalward.

Ultimately, Chelsea’s quality in tight spaces proved the difference, setting up one last chance of a trophy this season.
