Asma Khan, star of Netflix’s Chef’s Table series, will host a new supperclub in London next month with rather an unusual twist – she'll be serving more than 100kgs of recycled food to guests.
The London-based Darjeeling Express chef is teaming up with volunteers from FoodCycle Finsbury Park to turn surplus food into a three-course vegetarian menu on March 30, with tickets from £25 a head.
As the ingredients will be made up of food donations from local businesses, the exact details of the menu won't be known until the day. Kolkata-born Khan is, however, expected to use her expertise to cook up regional Indian dishes.
Last week, Khan became the first British chef to feature on the hit Netflix show Chef’s Table, which explores the work and influences of notable chefs from around the world.
FoodCycle is an organisation that looks to highlight the country’s food waste problem – seven million tonnes of food is wasted every year in the UK, despite more than two million people in the country suffering from malnourishment.
Asma Khan’s FoodCycle supperclub will run at Andover Estate Community Centre on March 30. For more information and tickets, visit eventbrite.co.uk.
