Television chef James Martin has thanked fans for their support after having surgery on his knee. In an update on social media a week after revealing he needed an operation he promised to be "back and fighting fit" soon.
The 50-year-old has been struggling with knee pain and had an MRI scan in November before having the operation this week.
He said it had gone well, but he has been having trouble sleeping since the surgery. Writing on Twitter on Friday, December 16, he said: "Just a message to say many thanks for all you kind messages, operation done now. Can’t sleep but guess that’s a small price to pay for now. Back and fighting fit soon!"

James recently shed three stone during lockdown, ditching a soft-drink habit for water, it has been reported. Speaking on Loose Women recently he said: "I don't drink tea or coffee so fizzy drinks were always sort of my nemesis really and in the kitchen particularly."
He also thanked fans for buying tickets for his show that goes on the road next year. The 21-date tour in autumn 2023 will include shows in Swansea, Cardiff and Llandudno. You can read more about that here.
"Thanks to all who booked tickets already for the tour," he said. "Amazing response and there are already a few venues that are nearly sold out. Sorry but the signed books sold out in the shop online but I will try to do more when I’m more mobile. Cheers all."
