Adam Reid, the celebrated chef from The French restaurant at the Midland Hotel, is to launch a new ‘posh sandwich’ concept at the soon-to-open New Century Hall. The bottom floor of the venue is to be turned into a food hall, with a host of food vendors getting involved.
Reid will launch ‘The Butty Shop’ when the hall opens later this summer, as a celebration of the British butty, using as inspiration childhood trips to the bakery. The upscale butties will be available for breakfast, lunch and dinner, while the menu with also feature some classic butty accompaniments, like pickled eggs and a potato salad.
He’ll be joined by Altrincham Market alumnus Banh Vi, the Vegan Vietnamese and Thai kitchen, known for its superb plant-based take on the banh mi sandwich, along with hearty noodle broths and summer rolls.

Last to be announced in the first wave of operators is BaoBros23, a father and son team making homemade bao buns with a northern England twist. The pair started out as a food truck at the Riverhead Brewery Tap in Marsden, serving up the frequently-changing bun menu with loaded fries and other sides.
The food hall will seat 300 people, with more food operators to be announced in the coming weeks ahead, while the food hall’s bar will boast local beers, a creative cocktails menu, as well as artisan coffee and juices.
The Grade II-listed New Century Hall was a key part of the Manchester music scene, and during the 60 and 70s hosted gigs from icons like Jimi Hendrix, Tina Turner, the Rolling Stones, Jerry Lee Lewis and The Bee Gees. Developers have now restored the concert venue, keeping its wood panelling, its original sprung dancefloor and its remarkable backlit ceiling.
Promoters Now Wave, who have run gigs across Manchester for over a decade, including programming live venue and bar YES, will be behind the live shows going on at the reinvigorated concert hall. The £10 million redevelopment is part of the regeneration of that part of the city dubbed NOMA, just by Victoria Station.
