There are lots of dogs and puppies across Leeds that are looking for their forever homes, centres operated by Dogs Trust, the Blue Cross and other animal charities temporarily take in these animals so they can live a happy life ahead of meeting their new family. However, some dogs stay longer than others, this is often due to behavioural issues and what situations they have gone through leading them to be put up for adoption.
Cheeka is an eight-year-old Staffordshire Bull Terrier Cross. She has a broken heart after losing her owner and her home, her owner sadly passed away and since she has been moved into the centre in Leeds and has been waiting a long time for a new family.
Cheeka's owner had a special card, that meant if anything happened to the family or current owner then she was automatically placed into the system. This card is usually most popular with those who live on their own or older people.

Dogs Trust say: "Cheeka is a real snuggle monster and adores relaxing on the sofa with her favourite humans. She isn't fussy though and will happily make a big fuss of everyone she meets. She is happier in familiar places and her true personality shines through so a good routine and a less adventurous owner who is around all the time would suit her fine."
The full description of Cheeka reads: "She is happier in familiar places and her true personality shines through so a good routine and a less adventurous owner who is around all the time would suit her fine. She would need an adult only home although visiting young adults should be ok. Cheeka is a little unsure around dogs and would prefer not to share her home with them.
"Out and about she is very manageable as long as dogs aren't too invasive or OTT around her. She is also worried by traffic so will need a home away from busy roads and with access to quiet walks on the doorstep. She is great company and needs a very special owner to cherish and shower her with love. Believe me she will repay you tenfold !!"
Kevin Johnson, one of the Dogs Trust Canine Carers, said: “Her owner owned a canine care card, it is a card that anyone can sign up to free of charge so that if the owner passes away they can be passed onto Dog’s Trust.
“This makes the whole transition much easier, it’s very popular with older dog owners.
“The card does save a dog going into stray kennels, if someone finds the card the dog comes to us, Cheeka didn’t have the trauma”
Dogs Trust are looking for an owner who is dedicated to training and will be on hand to take the dog out on walks frequently. Kevin says that following the owner's passing she has suffered from anxiety and it will take time for her to move into a new home.
Kevin added: "She is absolutely 100% staffy, she is full of energy, she loves attention, she is not the type of dog that can just be in the background, she enjoys her walks, she really enjoys her training.
“Someone who has a bit of interest in teaching dogs things, dogs with mental stimulation can feel much less stress.
“Her owner would need to be someone who is quite active, eventhough Cheeka is an older dog, we need someone that is interested in and works with the dog.”
