An expert panel of judges has combed through some of Germany's finest beards, in a bid to crown the 'Beard Olympics' champion at the 2021 German Beard and Mustache Championships.
The competition, which is held in Eging am See in the country's south-east, saw about 100 men flock into town to proudly display their hairy assets.
Contestants could enter into a range of categories — including 'natural', for those opting not to use styling gel or product.
The judging panel critiqued each follicle creation according to its density and length.
Christian Feicht, president of the East Bavarian Beard and Moustache Club, which is hosting the competition, said maintenance is the key to success.
"Beard care is actually the most important thing," he told German media press agency dpa.
The competition saw people travel from the Netherlands, Italy, Switzerland, Austria and Israel to compete.
Mr Feicht said the competition favoured those with "more material to style".
The competition attracted a "certain ambition and seriousness" but was mostly enjoyed as a friendly event, he said.
